Early 2004, Partho Bhowmick accidentally picked up an old photography magazine from a pavement vendor in Mumbai. It it he came across an article on Evgen Bavcar, one of the world's most accomplished blind photographers, based in Paris. After being profoundly influenced by work of Evgen Bavcar, Partho decided to teach photography to the visually impaired in India. After nearly two years of independent research on art and blindness, in February 2006 he started Blind With Camera with just one visually impaired in Mumbai. Over the years, more than 1500 of visually impaired are trained in photography in India and abroad. Today many trained visually impaired take pictures independently, several of them have turned trainers and few are commissioned for photo shoots.
Blind With Camera is first of its kind in India with footprints in UK, Singapore, Malaysia and Greece. Since 2009, Blind With Camera is core project of the Beyond Sight Foundation.
